šŸæ Is a second bachelor’s ever the right move?

They left teaching, took a $50K admin job for the tuition perks, and is stuck wondering if another degree is the only way up.

Inside today’s snack: They’re burnt out on music, stuck in admin, and wondering if free tuition is a trap or a ticket out.

šŸ„’ Today’s pickle

I have a bachelor’s in Music Education and a master’s in Jazz Studies. My original goal was to become a music teacher, either at the secondary or university level. After grad school, I worked as an adjunct professor for a year. It was fulfilling and aligned with my goals, but it didn’t pay the bills. Now I work as an Administrative Assistant in the College of Fine Arts Dean’s Office at a large university. The pay isn’t amazing (around $50k), but it’s a good change of pace, a solid resume builder, and comes with excellent tuition reduction benefits.

That said, I’m feeling pretty burnt out on music and teaching right now. I’m considering using the tuition benefits to get a second bachelor’s in something more practical. But I’m also wondering if this admin role could be a solid jumping-off point for higher-paying positions. Maybe even outside of higher ed. I’m not opposed to staying in administrative roles.

So my main question is: is there real potential for growth and better pay on the admin path I’m currently on? Or would it be smarter to use the tuition benefits now and get a more practical second degree?
