🥒 Today’s pickle

I’m 25, recently passed my CPA, and just got promoted at my accounting job. This is what I’ve been working toward since college, and I’m grateful for the stability and success. But I work from home, and most days I have no motivation to get up and work or energy to make plans after. I’ve been losing sleep because I dread the mornings.

My whole life, I’ve been told I’m creative, smart, and a good communicator. I used to draw, sing, write, and play music through high school, but my current life doesn’t reflect any of that. For the past 2–3 years, I’ve been working 50+ hours a week and sacrificing those interests. It feels like the things I value most about myself would fit better in teaching, writing, or a more creative profession.

Now I’m questioning if I need a whole new path or just hobbies. I’ve thought about yoga teacher training to do something for myself and get involved in the community, or even going to law school for something more purposeful. It feels like I consider a completely different path every week.

What would a career coach say? 🧀 Here’s the cheese:

  1. Run small, time-bound experiments.

    • Commit to one trial project for 4–6 weeks in the path you’re curious about.

    • Examples: teach a one-off community class, join a local music group, or volunteer to lead a workshop at a library.

  2. Book creative sessions into your calendar.

    • Reserve two evenings a week for drawing, music, or writing.

    • Pick a set start and end time, and block notifications to protect that time.

  3. Reduce your weekly work hours.

    • Track your actual hours for two weeks, then cut 3–5 hours by eliminating low-value tasks or setting firmer boundaries on availability.

    • Use that freed time for creative or exploratory projects.

  4. Pick one major change and trial it.

    • If it’s yoga teacher training, sign up for the next available intake and commit to completing it.

    • If it’s law school, audit an intro law class or attend a public lecture to confirm interest before applying.

TL;DR: Test career ideas in real life, reclaim specific hours for creative work, and try one big change at a time before making a full switch.
